There is the use of shadows and negative space throughout the artwork. The focal point is the bottom left corner, as this is where the largest piece of cake is and it is where your eye goes first when looking at this work. The colors used for the cakes are warm, and the colors other than that are mostly cool colors. The light is coming from the top right of the painting, as the shadows show. The cakes are at different angles, giving a sort of arrow effect as they are mostly facing the right, which is also the light source.
