Movies connect people in Canada to people from all over the world by giving them a similar experience. While the people, country, and language may change, the movie plot does not. It stays consistent and passes the same message along. Someone from China could watch the same movie as someone from Canada and they both would get the same message. That is a connection, even though they live hundred of miles apart and don’t speak or have the same costumes, they still get the same plot and message.

Can someone explain what this quote means please?
Agata [3.3K]

Scout's response illustrates her innocence and perspective. Scout realizes that social factors and opportunities play an important role in one's social class, but do not represent an individual's true character. Scout believes that each person is born equal, regardless of race or class. Her perspective and beliefs reflect her father's tolerant disposition, which he has successfully passed down to his daughter.

In order to better understand that quote, one has to contrast it with Jem's view of people, the division in four types of "folks". By contrast, Scout's position regards only one kind of "folks", just "folks", that is, just humans.

Which of these statements about other characters' reactions to Myrtle's death is true?
iris [78.8K]

Answer:

The true statement about Myrtle's death is:

b. Tom's first instinct is to protect himself. Later he cries.

Explanation:

The characters mentioned in the question belong to the novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Tom is married to Daisy, and Myrtle is married to Wilson. Tom and Myrtle have an affair, of which Wilson is starting to suspect and Daisy already knows. Daisy is also having an affair with the protagonist of the story, Gatsby. While driving back from New York to their homes in a yellow car, Daisy and Gatsby run over and kill Myrtle. They do not pull over to give any assistance.

Tom is following in another car with Nick, the story's narrator and Daisy's cousin. When he finds out his lover has died, he is in shock for a moment. He is forced to recover quickly when a witness talks about the yellow car that ran over Myrtle. It turns out that the car is Tom's, and Wilson has seen Tom driving it previously. Afraid that Wilson might blame him for the accident, Tom's instinct is to protect himself. He tells Wilson the yellow car is not his, and quickly goes away with Nick, all the time being authoritative. However, as soon as they distance themselves from the scene, Tom begins to cry.

<em>"Listen," said Tom, shaking him a little. "I just got here a minute ago, from New York. I was bringing you that coupe we've been talking about. That yellow car I was driving this afternoon wasn't mine - do you hear? I haven't seen it all afternoon."</em>

Your English teacher indicates that she students should not use the word "stuff or "thing in their essays What is the best way t
kupik [55]
I used to have a teacher who said this as well. The best way to understand would be to show examples of how to specify such terms as “stuff” and “things”. For instance: “The birds have lots of stuff.” That was not clear because the reader does not know what the “stuff” is. Instead, the text could be changed to: “The birds have lots of feathers.” Now the reader knows what the stuff is because it has been replaced with a more specific word. If you go over multiple examples in your head, it will become easier to comprehend and you will get used to doing it.
