Answer:  Eukaryotic cells — those that make up cattails and apple trees, mushrooms and dust mites, halibut and readers of Scitable — have evolved ways to partition off different functions to various locations in the cell. In fact, specialized compartments called organelles exist within eukaryotic cells for this purpose. Different organelles play different roles in the cell — for instance, mitochondria generate energy from food molecules; lysosomes break down and recycle organelles and macromolecules; and the endoplasmic reticulum helps build membranes and transport proteins throughout the cell. But what characteristics do all organelles have in common?   • They have thick eyelashes and closeable nostrils to prevent the entry of sand. They store fat on their humps that supplies energy during long journeys and has a long large intestine which increases water reabsorption.
  • Sand cat is similar to the domestic cat in basic appearance but has several adaptations enabling it to survive in the desert. Their paws are covered with thick and long hairs to protect the feet from the heat. They have thick fur that acts as an insulting surface during hot days and cold nights.  
  • Desert tortoises have excellent water storage capacity. Their bladders are larger than normal and can carry extra water. They have strong feet which helps them to dig holes in the sand and access rainwater.
  • Desert lizards can drink water through skin. They do it by a process called cutaneous water acquisition and it helps them to gather water obtained from rainfall, damp sand and pools.
  • Great roadrunner has peculiar adaptations. The digestive system of the bird retrieves water from the feces as it is in the excretory canal.

Blood and lymph are the two circulating fluids in the animal body. Blood belongs to the circulation system whereas lymph belongs to the lymphatic system. Blood contains pigments which carry oxygen. Therefore, blood can be found in different colors in different types of organisms. But, lymph is a colorless fluid. Blood is composed of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and a fluid called plasma. Lymph is composed of white blood cells and a watery fluid. Both blood and lymph possess a circulatory function as well as an immune function. The main difference between blood and plasma is that blood circulates inside blood vessels whereas lymph circulates inside lymphatic vessels.
