Firstly, i think that the company decided to include the broken shoe because it supports the message that they want to convey. The message is that their competitor brand , Nike has cheap products and the element shows/proves it. Furthermore, the “broken shoe” is here to confirm that Nike uses cheap products and sells their product at a high price to convince people that their product is better than the competitor brand(Sketchers). (I didnt really understand what you were trying to say but i went ahead and changed it to the best of my little understanding so sorry if its not spot on) So overall this element is to support their message that sketchers is better than Nike.
