<em>Industry</em> is the production of goods within an economy.

The <em>growth of industry</em> in a dominant factor in the growth of any civilization. People in any given society need employment and education, the more they earn/learn, the better their living standards. Better living standards lead to more consuming power and this means more revenues for the country, more investments and better civil services.  A growth of civilization is measured not only in material goods but also in cultural and society benefiting aspects of life: inventions, patents, artistic content ( books, plays, movies etc). Without growing industry all this would be hindered since people would only concentrate on their struggle to survive and to sustain their families, neglecting their mental development.
