Mass percent of an element tells you what kind of elements are present in a molecule and what are the levels of each element which contribute to the total molecular mass of the molecule.
There is a formula to calculate the mass percent for each element:
% mass = (mass of element in 1 mole of the compound) / (molar mass of the compound) x 100%
The units of mass percent are usually grams.
