Answer:

The Mayflower Compact laid the foundation for self-government in the United States.

Explanation:

The passage clearly states, "The Compact has long been  celebrated as a model of government in which the leaders derive their power from the consent of the  governed."

Therefore, it's a process of elimination from that point on.

According to the Introduction, who encouraged Mary Shelley to expand Frankenstein into a full-length novel?
Andrews [41]
Answer: D. Percy Bysshe Shelley

Mary Shelley's husband was none other than Percy Bysshe Shelley. They are both writers, though Mary wrote novels whereas Percy wrote poems. Naturally, the two supported each other in their literary efforts and found inspiration in their daily discussions. One conversation in particular between Lord Byron and Percy was about the subject of Galvanism, and Mary was drawn into it after overhearing them speak. Mary was intrigued by the idea of Galvanism (which is the process of using electric current to stimulate muscle movement), and she was inspired to write a short story. When she showed her work to Percy, he encouraged her to continue writing, expanding her short story into a full novel. The idea that someone could be caused to move simply by electricity gave her the idea to create a fictional monster, born of this technique. Today, we know this monster as "the creature," from Mary's novel <em>Frankenstein.</em><em>

These two passages from "The Metamorphosis" work together to create which element of Freytag's pyramid
Fiesta28 [93]

Answer:

C) Climax.

Explanation:

In any story-line, the plot structure will consist of numerous stages which, according to Gustav Freytag, are in five stages. The first is the introduction/ exposition, followed by the rising action, climax, falling action, and finally the conclusion. Through these five stages, we can easily understand the structure of any plot.

In the given excerpt from Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis", the two passages create the <u>climax</u> of the whole plot. The climax is when the whole story's main structure came to its highest point, the turning point where the fate of the character(s) or the plot structure depends.

This stage presents the middle ground which will decide how the fates will change. Likewise, the given passage contains the family of Gregor deciding what to do with him. This scene contains the decision of the family <em>"to try and get rid of it"</em>, it being Gregor who has been changed to a bug. This presents a conflict in the story where the fate of Gregor was decided and thus, change his life forever.
