What influenced the difference between the colonies in New England, the middle continental colonies, and the southern colonies?

OK, let's see, I haven't done this in a while now. 

<span>New England </span>
<span>-Settled at first for religious differences with Europe, other colonies like Rhode Island were started by people (for RI it was Roger Williams from MA) who were expatriated from their original colony. </span>
<span>-New England has warm summers and harsh winters with moderate springs and falls. It has rocky soil, coastline, and lots of mountains. </span>
<span>-Some farming income, mostly fishing though, and after the industrial revolution very factory oriented. </span>
<span>-Mostly Puritana and their descendants </span>
