While traveling on a commercial bus line, a passenger was injured when some luggage fell on him. As required by applicable state

law, the bus company's in-house attorney conducted an investigation and filed the required report with the state transportation department. The passenger subsequently filed a civil action against the bus company in federal district court, seeking compensatory damages for the injuries he suffered. During discovery, the passenger's lawyer served on the bus company a request for production of documents, including a request for the report that the bus company filed with the state. The bus company objected to the request for the report and refused to produce it on the grounds that the report was privileged and protected from discovery under the work product doctrine. It did, however, produce other documents that were requested. The passenger then filed a motion to compel production of the report. If the court finds that the bus company's claims of privilege and work product were not substantially justified, what orders must the court make relating to the passenger's request for production of the report

Answer: See explanation

Explanation:

In a situation whereby the attorney of the passenger tried resolving the dispute in good faith, then the bus company must be ordered by the court to produce the report as well as the payment of reasonable cost that was incurred in making the motion.

It should however be noted that such cost may not be awarded when the movant had filed the motion before obtaining the disclosure in good faith. Also, the cost with be given when the nondisclosure response of the opposing party was justified.

ou are considering implementing a lockbox system for your firm. The system is expected to reduce the collection time by 3 days.
Taya2010 [7]

The net present value of this lockbox arrangement is $1,205,378.06.

Since you are considering implementing a lockbox system for your firm, and on an average day, your firm receives 1,370 checks with an average value of $ 880 each, and the daily interest rate on Treasury bills is 0.01 percent, and the bank charge per check would be $ 0.25, to determine what is the net present value of this lockbox arrangement, the following calculation must be performed:

  • ((1370 x 880) x 1.0001) - (1370 x 0.25) = X
  • 1,205,720.56 - 342.5 = X
  • 1,205,378.06 = X

Therefore, the net present value of this lockbox arrangement is $1,205,378.06.

A bond issued by the state of Alabama is priced to yield 6.40%. If you are in the 30% tax bracket, this bond would provide you w
Semmy [17]

Answer:

9.14%

Explanation:

Tax exempt yield = 6.40% = 0.064

Marginal tax rate = 30% = 0.30

Equivalent taxable yield = Tax exempt yield / (1 - marginal tax rate)

Equivalent taxable yield = 0.064 / (1 - 0.30)

Equivalent taxable yield = 0.064 / 0.70

Equivalent taxable yield = 0.0914286

Equivalent taxable yield = 9.14%

At december 31, 2018,stevenson company overstated ending inventory by $36,000. how does this error affect cost of goods sold
jarptica [38.1K]

The Cost of Good Sold is $36,000 lower than it should have been and the net income is $36,000 higher than it should have been.

There are two formulas that are important to know for this question. The first is Beg. Inventory + Purchases - Ending Inventory = COGS. The second formula is Sales - Cost of Good Sold = Gross Profit.

If you reported a higher ending inventory it is going to result in a lower value for Cost of Good Sold. In this case the company had too high of an ending inventory by $36,000, which mean that the COGS is $36,000 lower than actual.

When you have a COGS that is lower than it should be you are going to have a gross profit which is overstated. The Income is overstated by $36,000.
