Determine the theme of this passage. Then, describe the evidence from the text that supports the theme you identified. Passage O

skar loved to look through his father's telescope. He was fascinated by the stars and planets, and on clear nights, his father would set the telescope up and tell Oskar stories about the constellations. Then, one night, when his parents were asleep, Oskar set the telescope up secretly by himself. He tried to adjust the focus, but when he turned a knob, it broke in his hand! He was terrified. He put the broken telescope away and spent the whole night in fear of what would happen if he confessed to his father. But in the morning, he gathered his nerve and told his father what he had done. His father was silent for a moment, then hugged Oskar. "I know it was hard for you to admit that," he said, "but I also know how much you love the stars and planets. Let's fix it together so you can learn more about how telescopes work."

Answer:

The theme of the passage is that telling the truth is always the best thing to do.

The evidence of this theme can be seen in the lines:

"But in the morning, he gathered his nerve and told his father what he had done. His father was silent for a moment, then hugged Oskar. "I know it was hard for you to admit that," he said, "but I also know how much you love the stars and planets. Let's fix it together so you can learn more about how telescopes work.""

Explanation:

The theme of a text refers to the message the author wants to convey through reading. In the case of the text presented in the question above, the reader can see that after the boy breaks his father's telescope, he is very afraid to tell the truth about what happened. However, when he plucked up the courage, told the truth, and took the blame, the boy's father was not angry, but rather proud that his son was brave enough to tell the truth. In this, we can see that the message the author wants to present is that telling the truth is always the best option. This is the theme of the excerpt.

When previewing a text, what can you look for to help you predict what the text will be about?
dedylja [7]

Answer: The topic sentence

Explanation: If the text is properly written, the topic sentence should either be at the beginning of the paragraph/text, or the end, if it is a short text; for things like the heading or title; words in special print; repeated words; things reiterated by pronouns; or ideas being suggested.

⦁ Interview your parents and grandparents to find out about the things/activities they used to do when they were your age. Tabul
sergey [27]

A sample response for an interview of your parents and grandparents to find out about the things/activities they used to do when they were your age is:

Parents and grandparents: Some of the things we used to do back then were:

 • Traditional dates
 • Hiking
 • Working at the mine
 • Going shopping with coupons, etc

What is an Interview?

This refers to the formal interaction between two or more persons where questions are asked and answers are expected and usually given.

Hence, we can see that when making an interview, it is important that you record the answers and results of the interview as this is considered a primary source of information.

The result of the interview is shown above and it is only a sample but would serve as a guide to help you record your own interview results with your parents and grandparents.

Nathan filled the knothole in the tree to prevent Boo from giving the children gifts. To trick the children, he told them the tree was sick and the knothole needed to be filled.
