NeTakaya

Answer

Find out the how many shorter pieces can a seamstress cut.

To prove

Let us assume that the number of shorter pieces  cut be x.

As given

A seamstress has a piece of cloth that is 3 yards long.

she cuts it into shorter lengths of 16 inches each.

As

1 yards = 36 inches

Now convert 3 yards into inches.

= 3 × 36

= 108 yards

Than the equation becomes

16x = 108

x = \frac{108}{16}

x = 6.75

Therefore the number of shorter pieces be 6 .

Mekhanik [1.2K]

Part A The equation to model this would be

240-( 240- 6.5x + 9) = y

x is the minutes the balloon decreases in altitude

Part B plug in x

240- (240 - 6.5(15) + 9) = y

y = 106.5

expression answer: 106.5

Part C altitude is 133.5 (240 - 106.5)

otez555 [7]
If you divide 5 over 3 you get the decimal 1.6, not 15.
the correct answer would be 45.
how do i get that? read below.
________________________________
to solve:
\frac{x}{3} = 15
1.multiply each side by 3, to get the 3 on the left side to cancel out. so you get x = 15 times 3.
2. 15 * 3 = 45
