In this excerpt from <span><em>Old Times on the Mississippi </em>by Mark Twain, he tells the story of how he began training as a riverboat pilot. Lord Byron was not typical of the Romantic poets because of many reasons.  Byron was by far one of the least serious and solemn poets of that time and the most flamboyant. He had a more satirical approach in his poetry and a less serious perspective on work in general.
