You have to find common denominators for 1/2 and 1/8. Since both denominations have 8 in common, multiply 2 by 4 and get 8. Multiply 1 by 4 and get 4. 4/8. 1 4/8 plus 2 1/8 is 3 5/8. Hope this helped.

Nando is on a rehabilitation program following a car accident. For the first month, he needs to exercise at most five hours per
emmasim [6.3K]

Answer:

See explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the number of hours per week Nando is brisk walking  and y be the number of hours per week Nando is  biking at a moderate pace.

For the first month, he needs to exercise at most five hours per week, then

x+y\le 5

Brisk walking burns about 350 calories per hour, then it burns 350x calories per x hours.

Biking at a moderate pace burns about 700 calories per hour, then it burns 700y calories per y hours.

Nando must burn at least 2,000 calories per week, so

350x+700y\ge 2,000

You get the system of two inequalities:

\left\{\begin{array}{l}x+y\le 5\\ 350x+700y\ge 2,000\end{array}\right.

The attached graph shows the solution set to this system of inequalities. In this diagram, red region represents the solution set to the first inequality, blue region represents the solution set to the second inequality and their intersection is the solution set to the system of two inequalities.

mixer [17]

Answer: C

Step-by-step explanation:

x = 2\sqrt{y+2} - 6

x + 6 = 2\sqrt{y+2}

((x+6)/2 = \sqrt{y+2} )^2

(x+6/2)^2 = y+2

y = (x+6/2)^2 -2

y= 1/4x^2 +3x +7

19. There were 20 drinks in a cooler.
ella [17]

For this case we have that the complete question is:

There were 20 drinks in a cooler. Joey drank 15% of the drinks. Sandra drank 1/5 of the drinks. Hannah drank 1/4 of the drinks. Tammy drank 30% of the drinks. How many drinks are left in the cooler? a 0 b 2 c 5 d 9

We propose a rule of three:

20 ---------> 100%

x ------------> 15%

Where the variable "x" represents the amount of drinks equivalent to 15%.

x = \frac {15 * 20} {100}\\x = 3

So, Joey drank 3 drinks.

On the other hand, we have that Sandra drank \frac {1} {5}of the drinks:

20 * \frac {1} {5} = \frac {20} {5} = 4

Thus, Sandra drank 4 drinks.

In addition, Hannah drank\frac {1} {4} of the drinks:

20 * \frac {1} {4} = 5

So Hannah drank 5 drinks.

Finally, Tammy drank 30% of the drinks:

20 ---------> 100%

y ------------> 30%

Where the variable "y" represents the amount of drinks equivalent to 30%.

y = \frac {30 * 20} {100}\\y = 6

So Tammy drank 6 drinks.

Adding up we have:

3 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 18

So: 20-18=2

Thus, 2 drinks remain in the refrigerator.
