To learn about using dialogue and description to develop characters, Nikolas is analyzing the beginning of a novel he picked up

at the library. Read the excerpt and then answer the question.
Amy flopped facedown on the bed, burying her head in her pillow. She reached out blindly, grasping at the covers until she was cocooned in blankets.

“It’s not fair,” said a muffled voice.

“Amy, it has nothing to do with being fair,” said her sister Rachel. “No one younger than 15 is permitted to audition for summer theater. That was the rule when I joined the theater, and it’s the rule now. You’ll get your chance next year.”

“Next year!” Amy blurted, her head bursting from the cocoon. “But I can sing now,” she spluttered. “What’s my age got to do with it?”

“Nothing at all,” Rachel responded gently. “It’s just the way things are. But it’s not your only opportunity, you know.”

Amy remained silent, while her eyes narrowed in suspicion.

“There’s a statewide talent contest next month for people of any age. Contestants must submit a video of their performance, and the judges will select 10 finalists in each performance category to compete for a grand prize.”

Amy struggled to escape from the blankets. “Help me outta here, would you? I have a recording to make.”

What insight into Amy’s personality do the dialogue and behavior provide readers?

A.
They reveal that Amy thinks carefully before speaking or acting.
B.
They reveal that Amy lets her emotions guide her words and actions.
C.
They reveal that Amy doesn’t let rules stop her from speaking her mind or acting out.
