Please solve for a, b, and c
rusak2 [61]

The table is:
Number of washes denoted by x: 0, 8, 12
Amount left on card denoted by y: 30, 18, 12

a. Write an equation that shows the amount of dollars left on the card
Solution:
18 – 30 divided by 8 – 0 = -12/8
On simplest form is -3/2

The equation is y = -3/2x + 30

b. Explain the meaning of the negative slope above.
As the number of car washes increase, the dollars left on the card decreases.

c. What is the maximum value of x?
0 = -3/2x + 30
2/3 x 3/2 x = 30/1 x 2/3
Cancel 2/3 x 3/2 and reduce 30 by 3 we get 10, 10 x 2
x = 20

Answer:

1. A. 4 terms

There are 4 different values in the expression, so therefore there are 4 terms.

2. D. 3x^2 + 6x + 10

To get the answer...

start with the original expression: 3x^2 + x + 10 + 5x

add the like terms together, in this case you'd add x + 5x

you'll get: 3x^2 + 6x + 10

I hope I could help :)

Prove that the natural number x is prime if and only if x>1 and there is no positive integer greater than 1 and less than or
UNO [17]

There are several ways to prove a mathematical statement. These ways include: by contradiction, by induction, contraposition, etc

How to prove the statement by contradiction

To prove the statement, we make use of proof by contradiction

From the question:

x is a composite number such that: x > 1

This means that 1 < a < x is a factor of x

This can be represented as:

x = a * b

Where:

  • a  and b  are  positive  integers
  • 1 < a, b < x

Assume that b is less than or equal to a.

Also, let

b > \sqrt x

This means that:

\sqrt x < b \ge a

The above becomes

\sqrt x < a

Rewrite as:

a > \sqrt x

So, we have:

x = a * b > \sqrt x * \sqrt x = x

The above means that:

x > x

The above inequality is a contradiction because, a number x cannot be greater than itself

This means that, the supposition is wrong.

Hence, the given statement has been proved by contradiction
