How could a War between the US and USSR be even worse than WWWII

Well the Cold war was pretty terrible because this war wasn't about territory, or control, but rather beliefs as a whole. Also, there was a lot of manipulation going on, which messed up a lot of peoples governments. For example, I believe we staged a coup in Afghanistan which actually messed up a pretty solid presidency, and as a result, we formed Al Qaeda, religious extremists.

A war between the US and the USSR would have been worse than WWII, because they both had nukes, which would result in high casualty rates at a relatively low amount of time, radiation that kills many more people and destroys crops, land, water sources, etc, and pretty much just ends the world (if nukes were used everywhere)
