Answer:

                                                             13, Dallas Maccal,

                                                            Jane Smith,

                                                            Texas,

                                                            22nd February 2020.

To:

The Secretary-General,

American Red Cross,

Nate Close,

North America.

Dear Sir,

RE: LETTER OF REQUEST FOR FUNDING

The above subject refers.

I am writing concerning the flood disaster that occurred on the 20th day of February 2020 at the Dallas Maccal Community as a result of the constant rain which destroyed a lot of houses and roads.

The Flood penetrated the community and various homes due to the lack of a well-structured drainage system. The community also lacks a proper way to dispose of waste, and it is for this reason people pour their wastes on the streets, thereby blocking the drainage system.

As a result of the flood, people are homeless and buildings are getting weaker. The people in my local area move from one area to the other on boats. Also, the small businesses in my area have been shut down due to the flood.

I hereby apply for an urgent funding system and adequate infrastructure to help replace the houses destroyed, restore peoples business and to also avoid future flood occurrences.

Yours faithfully,

Mark.

"‘The longer it takes for a food to go from the field to your plate, the more it may deteriorate in terms of nutrient content,'
Tom [10]

This question is missing the options. I've found the complete question online. It is as follows:

"‘The longer it takes for a food to go from the field to your plate, the more it may deteriorate in terms of nutrient content,' explains Mary Lee Chin." As used in the sentence, deteriorate most nearly means

a) to improve

b) to adjust

c) to get worse

d) to recover

Answer:

As used in the sentence, "deteriorate" most nearly means:

c) to get worse.

Explanation:

The verb "deteriorate" means "to become progressively worse". However, even if we did not know its meaning, it wouldn't be difficult to assume what it was through the context. We all know that food eventually goes bad if it not consumed. Even if you store it in the fridge, the process of spoiling will take longer, but will still happen. Therefore, if the sentence is talking about food taking a long time to go from the field to the plate, we can safely assume deteriorate means go bad, or get worse.
