Half the perimeter is the length + the width.

Let the width = x

The length is x + 4. ( 4 feet more than the width)

Now you have x + x + 4 = 20

Combine like terms:

2x + 4 = 20

Subtract 4 from both sides:

2x = 16

Divide both sides by 2:

X = 8

The width is 8 feet

The length is 8 + 4 = 12 feet

<h2>Answer:</h2>

\boxed{(5(-\sqrt{2}+\sqrt{6}),5(\sqrt{2}+\sqrt{6}))}

<h2>Step-by-step explanation:</h2>

The origin of the coordinate system is the center of the circle. So we have an angle that measures 5\pi/12=75^{\circ}. so the x-coordinate and y-coordinate can be found, by using trigonometry as follows:

x=20cos(5\pi/12)=5\sqrt{6}-5\sqrt{2} \\ \\ Arranging:\\ \\x=5(-\sqrt{2}+\sqrt{6}) \\ \\y=20sin(5\pi/12)=5\sqrt(6)+5\sqrt{2} \\ \\ Arranging:\\ \\y=5(\sqrt{2}+\sqrt{6})

Finally, the exact value of the position of the rider after the carousel rotates 5\pi/12 radians is:

\boxed{(5(-\sqrt{2}+\sqrt{6}),5(\sqrt{2}+\sqrt{6}))}

5x + 10 = 20
Andrei [34K]

To solve for <em>x</em>, we must first isolate the term containing <em>x</em> which in this problem is 5x.

Since 10 is being added to 5x, we subtract 10 from both sides of the equation to isolate the 5x.

On the left, the +10 and -10 cancel out and on the right, 20 - 10 is 10 and we have 5x = 10.

Now we can finish things off by just dividing both sides of the equation by 5. On the left the 5's cancel and on the right, 10 divided by 5 is 2 so <em>x = 2</em>.
