This group of ships were tasked by Theodore Roosevelt to visit many countries in order to let them know how powerful the US Navy was. Their circumnavigation lasted from Dec. 16, 1907 to Feb. 22, 1909. It enhanced peaceful relationships with other nations and made the Americans truly inspired.

Such display of power is considered not to be its first time. Roosevelt also did a similar demonstration during the Algeciras Conference which was held in 1906.
