Answer: So wages are what you get paid on the normal. Like if I get paid minimum wage those are my wages. Compensated is not routine you are paid (compensated ) for the work performed. In fantasy books it is often said something to the effect of if you catch (some magical bad being) you will be compensated. But they are only paid after they achieve there work. Wages is if I have a job that pays me and it is routine. I know what is expected me of and I am paid for doing it.
