There are fewer studies that look at the factors that have an effect on the extent of well-being loss among the unemployed. Obviously, the extent that unemployment causes unhappiness depends on individual, social and institutional circumstances. Although unemployed workers usually suffer a discount of income, its extent varies relying on different earnings sources, such as savings and income-generating asset holdings, unemployment insurance and private transfers. Non-pecuniary consequences such as the loss of identification and self-esteem, stress and depression additionally depend on the individual, family and social instances surrounding unemployed workers. On the different hand, unemployed people acquire time for activities such as leisure, training, physical workout and home activities. Therefore, in evaluating the effect of unemployment on man or woman well-being, we have to reflect on consideration on all these relevant factors as well. Most research concerning the impact of unemployment on subjective well-being have used overall existence pleasure or happiness as a structured variable, ordinarily because of the data availability. In this study, we have a look at the impact of unemployment on satisfaction in five domains of lifestyles – work or foremost activity, financial situation, housing situation, and amusement time and fitness – using the European Community Household Panel survey (ECHP).
