This print, the work of Charles Stanley Reinhart, illustrates the so-called Women's Temperance Movement, which, starting in the late 1800s, aimed at promoting moderation, or temperance (which came to be known as the "woman's crusade," since women volunteers were actively involved in it) in the sale and consumption of alcohol, and, eventually, the total prohibition to sell it.
