Netherlands- Colonial territories in Asia, Portugal, The main goal became trade, Wanted to add to its treasury, Absolutist rule, held monopolies in trading, Republican system became an immobile oligarchy, Monopolized the spice trade in Indonesia

France- Parts of North America and parts of the Caribbean, The British, Land, resources, and wealth, new world provided opportunity for wealth, accepted an absolute rule, slave trade and being involved with 2 trading networks, Colonial conflicts between France and Britain resulted in the fall of empire, Developments in agriculture and industry
