Answer and Explanation:

The four events that best capture the plot of the story can be:

1. A stranger comes to a family home.

2. The stranger is invited in by the mother.

3. He begins to behave oddly.

4. The father and the mother are shaken by the visit.

The summary is as follows, based on the four events above:

One evening, a stranger rings the bell of a family house. He claims that he used to live in that very house when he was a child. The father is the one who answers the door, and he gives the man permission to look around the yard. The mother, however, out of sympathy, decides to invite the stranger in so that he can take a look inside the house.

As soon as he comes in, the man begins to behave more and more oddly while reminiscing. His words and actions begin to make the parents uncomfortable. Some of his sentences are cut in half, and many imply he was victim of some sort of domestic abuse. At some point, it is even possible to infer that this man is in fact dead. He is a ghost who has come to revisit the place where he suffered so much.

Finally, the father decides it is time for the stranger to go. He and his wife are shaken by the visit, to the point of being angry at each other. The mother tries to blame the father, saying she was not the one who answered the door.

Which central idea should be included in a paraphrase of this excerpt?
ololo11 [35]

The central idea depicts the theme of the story. The sentence about the man sent by Odysseus to investigate the land should be included in the paraphrase. Thus, option A is correct.

What is paraphrasing?

The complete excerpt for the question is: Read the excerpt from The Odyssey.

Then I sent out two picked men and a runner to learn what race of men that land sustained. They fell in, soon enough, with Lotus-Eaters,

who showed no will to do us harm, only offering the sweet Lotus to our friends but those who ate this honeyed plant, the Lotus, never cared to report, nor to return:

they longed to stay forever, browsing on that native bloom, forgetful of their homeland.

Paraphrasing is a writing and editing method that revises and rewrites the original sentences. It uses the same words from the original text and maintains its true meaning. In the heroic story of Odysseus, his journey has been depicted.

When Odysseus sent his men to explore the land they were transfixed at the same location and were resistant to move forward and just wanted to eat the lotus plant. The men even forget to return to their own homeland.

Therefore, option A. the sentence about the man Odysseus sent to land should be included in the excerpt.
