According to Locke, what is the relationship between the “Civil Magistrate” and the people?
Tanya [424]

Answer:The whole Jurisdiction of the Magistrate reaches only to these civil Concernments; and all Civil Power, Right, and Dominion, is bounded and neither can nor ought in any manner to be extended to the Salvation of Souls. First, Because the Care of Souls is not committed to the Civil Magistrate any more than to other Men. It is not committed unto him, I say, by God; because it appears not that God has ever given any such Authority to one Man over another, as to compell any one to his Religion. Nor can any such Power be vested in the Magistrate by the Consent of the People; because no man can so far abandon the care of his own Salvation, as blindly to leave it to the choice of any other, whether Prince or Subject, to prescribe to him what Faith or Worship he shall embrace. For no Man can, if he would, conform his Faith to the Dictates, of another.

What would happen if any of the three branches (executive, judicial, or legislative) were to greatly exceed its authority under
yKpoI14uk [10]
It would make checks and balances obsolete; one branch (lets take legislative) would be able to do whatever it sees fit without the other two branches balancing out the power. if most of the power shifted to one then the other two cant stop its decisions.

Why were Nixon opening up relations with Communist countries was good idea?
Yuliya22 [10]

Answer:

Depends on how you look at it.

Explanation:

Nixon opening up relations with communist countries was very good in terms of opening trade with low wage labor economies like china which represented a big economic success for both America and China. Him opening up relations improved Americas standing with many nations of the world including the soviets leading to reduction of nuclear arms in the future, these are positive aspects to it. The negative aspect is that mutual benefit also helps communist adversaries of America, opening up liberal trade with china failed to bring democracy to China, in fact it only led to higher levels of authoritarianism and shady economic practices like currency manipulation which hurts American currency exchange value. Its complicated, i would personally say it was a good idea but with a few major drawbacks geopolitically.
