Answer:

The rhyme scheme in "Over the river and through the woods" is:

ABCB ABDB ACEC ACFC AGBG AHIH

Explanation:

<u>To determine the rhyme scheme of a poem, we must attribute a letter to each different final sound that appears in the last word of each line. We should always attribute the letter A to the first final sound. Every different sound that follows then should be attributed the next letter of the alphabet.</u> Thus:

Over the river and through the woods,  A

To grandfather's* house we go;  B

The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh,  C

Thru the white and drifted snow, oh!  B

Over the river and thru the woods,  A

Oh, how the wind does blow!  B

It stings the toes and bites the nose,  D

As over the ground we go.  B

Over the river and thru the wood,  A

To have a first-rate play;  C

Oh, hear the bell ring, "Ting-a-ling-ling!"  E

Hurrah for Thanksgiving Day-ay!  C

Over the river and thru the woods, A

Trot fast my dapple gray!  C

Spring over the ground like a hunting hound,  F

For this is Thanksgiving Day!  C

Over the river and through the woods,  A

And straight through the barnyard gate.  G

We seem to go extremely slow,  B

It is so hard to wait!  G

Over the river and through the woods,  A

Now Grandmother's cap I spy!  H

Hurrah for fun! Is the pudding done?  I

Hurrah for the pumpkin pie! H

Note: If we take a good look at the third stanza, we will notice the the final word of the first line is "wood" and not "woods", which actually makes it different from the first lines in the other stanzas. If we were to consider it different, then it should be labeled E, not A. It may have been intentional, it may have been an accident. I decided to label it an A, since the first lines are supposed to be the same. If we change it for an E, then we must change E to F, F to G, and so on.

Which words or phrases contain allusions? check all that apply. Canadians the streets of santa fe started over again maya angelo
marshall27 [118]

The words or phrases containing allusions are "Canadians," "the streets of Santa Fe," and "Maya Angelou's books," as is further explained below.

<h3>What is allusion?</h3>
  • Allusion is a type of figurative language.
  • We allude to something when we mention it implicitly.
  • Allusion does not explain the meaning or story behind it.

If an author alludes to Maya Angelou's books, he is assuming that his reader know who Maya Angelou was and what her books are about. Therefore, he is making an implicit mention to a famous person.

The same can be done for events. If an author alludes to the streets of Santa Fe, he assumes readers know what happened in those streets. He does not have to explain it explicitly.
