Besides, the actions took place at a specific moment in the past (when Paula and Humeberto Suárez were at the restaurant). The clue to know that the story took place in the past is the first verb "llegaron" conjugated in the pretérito perfecto simple. Here follows the model, I have included between brackets the English equivalents:
