The theory of continental drift, nowadays proven to be true, establishes that the continents are not static but in constant motion over the years, gradually changing their shape. This is proven through the existence of the supercontinent Pangea, millions of years ago.

As a consequence of continental drift, the continents that we know today have changed their position enormously. Thus, the sectors of southern Africa, which today have a hot climate due to their proximity to the equator, in ancient times were much further south, close to Antarctica at a latitude similar to that of southern Chile or Argentina today. Because it was located there, southern Africa had numerous glaciers, which with the passage of time and the movement of the continent have gradually disappeared.
