Answer and Explanation:

Dr. Goddard was extremely influenced and inspired by the readings of literary works of science fiction, especially those written by H. G. Wells, known as "The War of the World." This type of reading stimulated his imagination and curiosity about what was possible to do with the use of science.

He was also influenced by analyzing the sky and thinking about how wonderful it would be, if a machine was able to allow human beings to analyze the sky up close, being able to see everything that compose it and all the space above it.
