A command was issued, and three ceremonial shots rang out from the submarine USS Ohio. Then, Jason Witty turned toward the sea a

nd solemnly scattered the ashes of his grandfather, Eugene Morgan, over the Pacific Ocean. Witty stood at roughly the same location where his grandfather, who fought in World War II, had survived a military attack. That attack killed a majority of Morgan's shipmates 63 years earlier. The 87-year-old Morgan died in June 2008. Shortly before his passing, he informed his family members that he wished to rejoin his shipmates who had perished.
