With the help of British liberal democrats as well as those who questioned the English establishment, these college students formed the Indian National Congress in 1885. Gandhi and other nonviolent revolutionaries toured the world preaching nonviolent resistance to the British. As a result of his belief that independence could be achieved without violence, Gandhi was able to bring India together.
