The night was magnificent, one of those nights which bring grand, vague ideas to the soul—more sensations than thoughts, perhaps

—that bring a desire to open the arms as if they were wings and embrace the heavens—but how can I express it? One always feels that these unknown things can be comprehended.
There was a dreaminess, a poesy in the air, a happiness of another kind than that of earth, a sort of infinite intoxication which comes from the stars, the moon, the silver, glistening water. These are the best moments of life. They are a glimpse of a different existence, an embellished, delicious existence; they are the revelation of what could be, of what will be, perhaps.

In this excerpt from “The Wedding Night,” Maupassant uses _____ to develop characters. Select all that apply.

a. direct characterization
b. indirect characterization
c. revealing dialogue
d. vivid description

In this passage from “The Wedding Night”, the author uses “vivid description” to develop the characters. So, option D) is the correct one.

Throughout the passage, there are several examples that reinforce the use of vivid descriptions such as “a sort of infinite intoxication which comes from the stars, the moon, the silver, glistening water”, “They are a glimpse of a different existence, an embellished, delicious existence”, “The night was magnificent, one of those nights which bring grand, vague ideas to the soul”.

Vivid descriptions are literary resources used to describe emotions and memories in a very clear and detailed way so that the reader produces those vivid images of the descriptions.

Option C does not apply to this part of the excerpt as there are no dialogues introduced. As regards direct and indirect characterization, the author is not describing the character’s personality through these literary resources.

.. The area of a garden plot can be represented
Vlada [557]

The area of each section is 14z - 9

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

The area of a garden plot can be represented  by the expression 84z - 54

The garden will be  divided into six sections for planting six different  vegetables

The sections will be equal in area.

<em><u>To find: Expression for area of each section</u></em>

Number of sections = 6

Area\ of\ each\ section = \frac{\text{Total area of graden}}{\text{Number of sections}}

Area\ of\ each\ section = \frac{84z-54}{6}\\\\Area\ of\ each\ section =\frac{6(14z-9)}{6}\\\\Area\ of\ each\ section = 14z - 9

Thus area of each section is 14z - 9

Choose one character from any work of fiction you have read in this course. Write a 3-4 paragraph analysis of the character. Ref
igor_vitrenko [27]

Answer and explanation:

Character chosen for the following analysis: Mr. Darcy.

Mr. Darcy is one of the main characters of the romantic novel written by Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice. He's a very rich, very serious young man that does not show any kind of interest in meeting young ladies (unlike he's closest friend) since he has an arranged marriage from a really young age.

This goes around this way until he meets Elizabeth Bennet, a young lady that will change all of his world all of a sudden, but, of course, this plot twist will show slowly along the whole novel.

Their relationships seems rough at first and they act more like two people that can't stan each other, but progressively they find out that they have a similar mind on various topics of interest. So from there on, their relationship starts getting better, more friendly, until it develops into something more.
