In the United States, conservatism is a broad political movement that includes both a social and a fiscal branch. Social conservatism place great value on family values, medical-ethical restraint and Christianity. In contrast, fiscal conservatism emphasizes an economically restrained government, low taxes and the free market. Most American conservatives feel connected to the Republican Party. Thus, conservatives consider that taxes should be low, in order to allow individuals, through their individual efforts, to obtain the necessary benefits to meet their needs, without an unfair redistribution of income by the government.
