The reason why Lincoln needed a military victory was to prove that his government had the power to enforce this law. Without a military victory, it would not be applied to the states where slavery is being practiced making useless. Secretary of State William Seward also advised the President that it would be best to issue the Proclamation after a military victory. When the Union army drove back the Confederate forces commanded by General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Antietam, it was the victory that Lincoln needed to issue the Emancipation Proclamation.

3. It is hard to tell did the benefits or the problems outweigh in this situation. From one side, the economy was growing stronger, and the region was modernized, which on the long run gave it big advantage in its development and became one of the most important places in the world. On the other side, the majority of the people didn't really saw anything from this modernization and economic development, but instead lived in bad conditions, and took quite some time for their standard of living to became descent.

When Lilienthal died in a glider crash, the brothers decided to start their own experiments with flight. Determined to develop their own successful design, Wilbur and Orville headed to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, known for its strong winds.

Wilbur and Orville set to work trying to figure out how to design wings for flight. They observed that birds angled their wings for balance and control, and tried to emulate this, developing a concept called “wing warping.” When they added a moveable rudder, the Wright brothers found they had the magic formula-on December 17, 1903, they succeeded in flying the first free, controlled flight of a power-driven airplaine. Wilbur flew their plane for 59 seconds, over a distance of 852 feet, an extraordinary achievement for their time.

The Wright brothers soon found that their success was not appreciated by all. Many in the press, as well as fellow flight experts, were reluctant to believe the brothers’ claims at all.
