Could someone PLEASE help me with questions based off the short story "The White Heron"

In the falling action the protagonist is contemplative (or confused).

She is not sure that she made the right choice, hiding the white heron from the guest. She thinks to herself: "Were the birds better friends than their hunter might have been, -- who can tell?" because she still does not know how she feels about letting the guest go away in disappointment.
