There are many similarities and differences between a dramatic play, and a short story. Take Romeo and Juliet, and its structure. It is structured as a traditional play, and has a traditional plotline leading to a tragic ending. A short story/novel, Old Man And The Sea, is similar. While it is not a play, but a book, it holds the same plotline structure, and is similar in sad themes. It is also very different with the style and wording. While Romeo and Juliet was first shown all the way back in 1597, and has a very old style, Old Man And The Sea was published in 1952, so they have very different tones and themes.

Hope this helps :)

pantera1 [17]

Dickens’ father was imprisoned for debt and 12-year-old Charles was sent to work in a factory to help support the family.

2. Dickens’ story The Signal Man is partly derived from personal experience. In 1865 Dickens was involved in the famed Staplehurst rail crash in which seven train carriages toppled off a bridge that was under repair. Dickens narrowly avoided catastrophe as his own car was the first to be spared once the train finally stopped, however the incident scarred him mentally.

3. In 1846 Dickens co-founded Urania Cottage, a home for the redemption of “fallen” women where accepted candidates could learn skills, often domestic, and re-integrate into society.

4. Dickens was keenly interested in the paranormal, and has even been linked to the famous paranormal investigation group “The Ghost Club” of London.

5. Dickens kept a pet raven named Grip, which he had stuffed when it died in 1841.

1. Which is true about an effective claim?
Likurg_2 [28]
That's a weird question. It could be any if the above, and without more context it's impossible to know. The most general one that applies to pretty much all claims is "it takes a clear position", so I would go with that.

Which statement best evaluates the evidence in this excerpt?
Elena-2011 [213]

Answer:

The author uses specific data, reasons, and quotations to support her argument effectively, but the excerpt would be stronger if she included eyewitness testimony or personal stories.

Explanation:

The excerpt from "Social Media Made the Arab Spring, But Couldn't Save It" by Jessi Hempel. The authors effectively use verifiable data and a quotation from an expert to support their claim.

The author uses specific data, reasons, and quotations to support her argument effectively, but the excerpt would be stronger if she included eyewitness testimony or personal stories.

The excerpt provides more effective evidence because it has data and statistics from research reports and also uses titles of articles and authors' names as evidence. The excerpt would have been more stronger if the author had taken into account the first hand stories and testimonies of eyewitness on the frontline, this will give more credibility to the excerpt.
