Explanation:

The growing tensions between the North and the South affected the economy of New York. The city was divided among support, racial, and economic interests. While most New Yorkers supported the war, notable forces urged for peace with the Confederacy. The New York City economy depended massively on southern cotton.  Financiers, commercial shippers, merchants selling manufactured goods were dependent on the South and they did not want to have any conflict with them. African Americans have lived and worked in New York City, some as slaves and some as free people. African American tended to support abolition.

By 1914 the major European powers had split into two Alliance comprising of; Tripple Entente which comprised of Britain, France, and Russia, while, Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy formed the Tripple Alliance. Alliances shifted during World War 1 on the western front when Italy betrayed its Allies, Germany and Austria when it attacked Austria in 1915 when it joined the Triple Entente. Bulgaria later joined the central powers, while Britain asked, India, Arabs, New-Zealand, and Australia to help in attacking the Ottoman empire. Towards the end of the war, the United States joined the Triple Alliance and declared war on Germany on 6th April 1917.
