Answer:

As the stranger drove away in their van with the policeman tailing them, Elisa sighs with exasperation.  She picks up her sandwich and takes a bite.  The crunch of lettuce fills the air as she masticates.  After she finishes, she throws away the wrapper.  "Why did the police man have to butt in?"  She says to herself.  "The stranger promised me candy."  Feeling disappointed, she walks home.

(A) a stone cannot be ethical because_________. (B) whereas human can be ethical because_________.
Sloan [31]
You didn't give the options. However, i'll try.
To me, a stone cannot be ethical because it cannot suffer. Indeed, the capacity for suffering must be satisfied before we talk about interest in a meaningful way. For instance, nothing we could possibly do for a stone could make a difference in its welfare. It don't have interest.  Whereas, we, humans have interest. Therefore we can be ethical because we are sentient beings that can be benifited or harmed. It's because we can experience pain as a result.
Hope this helps !

Why do you think the speakers sassines will upset others still i rise
Yuri [45]

Answer:

Because Angelou´s self-confidence and her feisty approach to life might seem like not good qualities for a black woman in the eyes of those who are racist and/or against the human rights of women and African Americans.

Explanation:

Maya Angelou´s poem titled "Still I Rise" is an ode to the resilience of those who suffer oppression. Angelou was a civil rights activist whose poetry often referred to blackness and black womanhood, so it´s likely that this poem is a critique of anti-black racism.

When she asks if her sassiness might upset some people, she uses irony to reflect her disdain for what the white man thinks of her. She repeatedly describes herself as behaving like someone with lots of money and power would, and since she´s a black woman, she knows there are people who won´t like that. So her question is actually a provocation: she couldn´t care less about offending that kind of people.
