In 1889, in Chicago’s West Side, on Halsted Street in the middle of an immigrant neighborhood in the Nineteenth Ward, <u>Jane Addams</u> and her college friend, <u>Ellen Gates Starr</u> established the most famous of the settlement houses, Hull-House.
