The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was created by the Chinese to limit the emigration of Chinese to America and this was rationalised by claims by Americans that the poor wages and economic instability was because of the Chinese even though the Chinese population was very small at the time. This loaw was passed by Congress to placate the workers and maintain "white purity"
The Gentlemen’s Agreement, (1907) was done so the Japanese would not issue passports to Americans except a few exceptions. This decision made President Theodore Roosevelt to order San Francisco to stop the order of racial segregation of Japanese students.
These two events illustrates that many Americans were intolerant of ethnic minorities
