One effect of decreasing wolf populations in north america is:
MrRa [10]
The decreasing wolf populations in North America can result to the range expansion of coyotes

Wolves and coyotes usually compete for prey, especially the smaller mammals. Wolves do not actively hunt coyotes but do attack them when the latter ventures into their territory.

With decreasing wolf populations, coyotes can then venture and hunt more freely. However, the coyotes cannot take the place of the wolves in helping maintain balance in the ecosystem in which they belong to because of their preference for smaller mammals.

Wolves can help regulate an ecosystem's larger mammals such as the ungulate populations, as they do not prey on the smaller mammals as much as coyotes do. This leaves more prey available for mid-level carnivores like foxes. Moreover, wolves also leave behind carcasses of their prey, which become food for other animals such as foxes, badgers, raptors, coyotes and other scavengers.

What are the estimated allele frequencies in a population if the frequency of the dominant phenotype is 0.64 (Hint: handout to g
Nadya [2.5K]

Answer:

0.8 and 0.2

Explanation:

Hardy Weinberg law states that the allele frequency of the population remain stable from one generation to next generation if no natural selection, drift or mutation occurs in the population.

Let p and q be the dominant and recessive frequency of the population respectively.

The dominant phenotype means p² = 0.64

p = 0.8

and we known that p + q = 1, in hardy Weinberg equilibrium.

0.8 + q = 1.

q = 0.2

Thus, the dominant allele is 0.8 and recessive allele is 0.2.

PLS HELP ASAP If an animal cell wasn't in an isotonic solution, wouldn't active transport be able to balance the cell's volume?
ohaa [14]

Answer:

Animal cells tend to do best in an isotonic environment, plant cells tend to do best in

a hypotonic environment. This is demonstrated in the attached PDF.

Explanation:

A cell that does not have a rigid cell wall, such as a red blood cell, will swell and lyse (burst) when placed in a hypotonic solution, a process called cytolysis. Cells with a cell wall will swell when placed in a hypotonic solution, but once the cell is turgid (firm), the tough cell wall prevents any more water from entering the cell. When placed in a hypertonic solution, a cell without a cell wall will lose water to the environment, shrivel, and probably die. In a hypertonic solution, a cell with a cell wall will lose water too. The plasma membrane pulls away from the cell wall as it shrivels, a process called plasmolysis.

I hope this helps. If not I am really sorry!
