English

Answer:

An allusion is a literary device that provides greater context to the work at hand by referencing a previous work of art, a person, a place, an event, or a situation—usually of some social, political, or historical significance.

For example: You're acting like such a Scrooge! Alluding to Dickens's A Christmas Carol, this line means that the person is being miserly and selfish, just like the character Scrooge from the story.

Allusions are an important part of understanding literature because they give us a deeper understanding of an author's message. An author can skillfully draw upon allusions to give a story, poem, play, or other literary form more meaning or to provide clues about an author's message.

What is a counter claim
AnnyKZ [126]

Answer:

A claim made to rebut a previous claim.

Explanation:

It is basically another claim brought to oppose the claim that was previously established.

For example:

"Social media makes teenagers lazy, unresponsive, feel bad about themselves, and short-tempered."

A counter-claim to this would be: "Actually, social media can be very beneficial for teenagers as it helps them communicate better with others."

“the wife’s lament” If the husband were to return, do you think the wife would be welcoming? Explain
Juliette [100K]
Yes, I believe she would be welcoming. Even though the last part of the poem sounds like a curse ("<span>May the young man be sad-minded with hard heart-thoughts"), it is still a statement of the speaker's enduring love for him. She suffers, but imagines that he suffers too, in the exile or wherever he is, and remembers their happy days with sorrow. Her depression has elements of embitteredness, but her love for him is not disputable.</span>
