Wanted: To reunite the nation by including remission for all those who swore loyalty towards the United States of America.
But: He was exasperated towards the Radical Republicans, who in reality thought he had been too sympathetic and magnanimous by allowing the confederates to return the their authoritative position.
So: The Americans have gained an overwhelming and prodigious majority in both the House and Senate. Congress then began passing bills to help amend the Reconstitution policies.
<h2><u>Radical Republicans</u></h2>
Wanted: To adjust for the south and take over authority of the reconstruction.
But: The 17th president Andrew Johnson actually vetoed innumerable bills that congress had passed.
So: Many other Republicans joined the Radicals and together, which gave the Republicans in Congress the ability to override the President Johnson’s vetoes as well as putting their own plans into action.
<h2><u>Southern Democrats</u></h2>
Wanted: The removal of all of the remaining federal troops from the South as well as having a change in Congress.
But: They had to commend the decision of the commission and directive to make Rutherford B. Hayes the 19th president in the 1876 election.
So: They had agreed to accept Rutherford B. Hayes as the next president if he removed all remaining federal troops from the South and naming a Southern Democrat towards his own Cabinet.
