At the congress, they were trying to decide whether to break free from British oppression. Patrick Henry's speech was all about how he would rather have and enjoy liberty even through death, instead of "bondage" while living. The main idea is that basic human rights are essential to truly live in society, while living in the opposite is life worse than death.
