The constitution was not meant to be changed often. If the constitution, the set of values on which the country was built, was able to be easily changed, the vision of the country and the founding fathers would also be fickle. If that were the case, the United States might have lost the rights and freedoms that it was formed to protect.

The reason for making the amendment process difficult is simple. If we could easily change the grounds in which the nation was based then there would be no point in creating the constitution and the bill of rights at all. We can't easily allow people to change the rights we have.
