The men feel defeated and upset. As they leave many of the men grieve because their friends, who they sailed with, had been killed. Additionally, many felt anger and fear. This is because as they left the land of the Cyclopes, Odysseus taunted the Cyclopes. The men feared that this was too bold and would lead to them incurring the wraith of the gods, which they did.
