The flu shot helps prevent huge numbers of infections. Even when it doesn't fully prevent infection in every person, the shot ma

kes any flu infection less serious. On a global scale, the vaccine can reduce the number of infections only if most people in the community take it. That's because vaccines need to reach enough people to achieve a "herd immunity," the level of immunity needed to prevent the virus from spreading. If too few people get the vaccine, the people who receive it may not be well protected against infection.
So the next time you are at the drugstore, and you see No Flu Shots Available, think about the reasons behind it. Drug makers are scared to make too many flu shots because they could lose too much money. They then make fewer flu shots and the effect of the flu shots becomes weaker because not enough people take it. People become more reluctant to take the flu shot since they don't think it will fully work. The demand goes down further and the flu companies make even fewer shots the next year.

This could continue until the community changes its mind and we all get the flu shot. "That is a community responsibility," says the president of Merck, one of the two remaining flu vaccine manufacturers.

Which argument best supports the passage's claim that more people should get the flu vaccine to stop the virus from spreading?

Answer:

If too few people get the vaccine, the people who receive it may not be well protected against infection.

Explanation:

The argument that best supports the claim that more people should get the flu vaccine is that, if too few people get the vaccine, the people who receive it may not be well protected against infection. Here, we are informed about how damaging to people's health the lack of vaccination can be. Not only people who are not vaccinated are in danger, but those who do receive the vaccine are, as well.

The rest of the statements are not good arguments. The second statement doesn't tell us why we should think about the reason behind the No Flu Shots Available sign. The third statement doesn't tell us why we should get the flu shot at all. It just tells us that people don't think that vaccines will fully work, which is why they don't take them. The fourth statement is also not a good argument, as it just tells us about the financial aspect of the vaccine creation. It does nothing to convince us to get the shot.

This is why the first option is the correct one.

Fiesta28 [93]

Answer:

One reason that Thomas Paine brings up the opposing argument that the colonies have done well under British control is option D) To create an opportunity to disprove the argument. In Common Sense (pamphlet), Paine advocates for independence from Britain addressing this words to the common people of the Colonies. By saying that the Colonies have done well he creates the opportunity to say that to believe they will still do well is misleading.

Explanation:

For much of its early history, the British ruled their empire through terror. The colonies were run as a military dictatorship, often under martial law, and the majority of colonial governors were military officers.

The Thirteen Colonies, also known as the Thirteen British Colonies or the Thirteen American Colonies, were a group of colonies of Great Britain on the Atlantic coast of North America founded in the 17th and 18th centuries which declared independence in 1776 and formed the United States of America.
