X = 2y - 12....so sub 2y - 12 in for x in the other equation

3x + 4y = 14
3(2y - 12) + 4y = 14
6y - 36 + 4y = 14
6y + 4y = 14 + 36
10y = 50
y = 50/10
y = 5

x = 2y - 12
x = 2(5) - 12
x = 10 - 12
x = -2

solution is (-2,5) <==

What are the two solutions to x( 2x - 5) = 0
V125BC [204]
When you multiply anything by zero, you will get zero
Therefore you know that:
x = 0 and 2x - 5 = 0
2x - 5 = 0, solve for x
2x = 5, x = 5/2

Solution: x = 5/2, x = 0
