Search the Internet to find out the names of the nations caught behind the Iron Curtain.
Continue your Internet search to determine the countries that comprised the USSR.

Answer:

Hungary is to the east of Romania. Ukraine is 600,628 square kilometers in size, while Belarus is just 207,595 square kilometers in size. Evidently, Ukraine is nearly twice the size of Belarus. East Germany and Czechoslovakia were once part of the Iron Curtain but are no longer visible on the map. Of the countries that comprised the USSR, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia are four you can still find on the map.

The European countries which were considered to be "behind the Iron Curtain" included: Poland, Eastern Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania and the Soviet Union. From North Korea to Cuba more countries were separated from the West in the same sense.

The first transcontinental line was established in 1869. Eventually, railways lowered the cost of transporting many kinds of goods across great distances. These advances in transport helped drive settlement in the western regions of North America. They were also essential to the nation's industrialization.

The railroad became a way for companies to ship to each other from across the country, transport raw materials to factories, and send final products to consumers.
