England, not wanting to fall behind, made sure they colonized new lands often so they may be seen as a global superpower.
For the citizens who left England for the new world, they saw this is a golden opportunity to start over. Many poor English citizens took the trip to the new world in hopes of making a better life for themselves and their families.
